D'abord connue sous le nom d'Inearthed, la tribu metal finlandaise Children of Bodom prend son nom en 1996, en souvenir d'une affaire de meurtre mystérieuse, sur les bords du lac de Bodom en 1960.
Les musiciens de Children of Bodom sortent leur premier album en 1997, "Something Wild". Le son black metal de l'album se colore bientôt de parties de claviers plus importantes et de riffs de guitare plus agressifs : l'album "Hatebreeder" les révèle à l'internationale, surtout après leur tournée au Japon qui génère le disque live "Tokyo Warhearts".
Children of Bodom continue de surprendre son public en enregistrant les albums "Follow the Reaper" (2000) et "Hate Crew Deathroll" (2003) qui s'oriente vers des rythmiques plus heavymetal, très mélodique.
"Are you Dead Yet" (2005) et "Blooddrunk" (2008) confirment l'hybridation progressive du style "Children of Bodom".
